These sheriffs saved this woman from what her parents were doing to her. Baldwin County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a medical call that quickly turned into a high-stakes criminal investigation. What they found inside a local residence was a scene of "unimaginable" neglect. First responders were called to the home for a medical emergency involving Stacy McLellan, a vulnerable adult. Upon entering her room, deputies were hit with an overwhelming stench. They found Stacy severely emaciated, weak, and living in a room filled with trash, human waste, and debris. The investigation immediately shifted focus to her primary caregivers: her father, Terry Joe McLellan, and her stepmother, Vicki McLellan. When questioned, the parents offered a defense that shocked the public. They claimed Stacy was "stubborn" and had refused to eat or bathe. They argued they were "overwhelmed" and had simply stopped trying to provide care, failing to call for professional medical help even as her health reached a critical state. Both Terry Joe and Vicki were arrested and charged with Aggravated Elder Abuse and Neglect, a Class B felony in Alabama. They were released on $30,000 bonds pending trial. If convicted, they face up to 20 years in prison. Stacy was immediately removed from the home and placed under state guardianship. She is currently receiving professional medical care and long-term rehabilitation. This footage serves as a stark reminder of the legal "duty of care" owed to those who cannot protect themselves.
