The top 1% of taxpayers (with adjusted gross income of $663,164 and above in tax year 2022) pay a disproportionate share of federal individual income taxes, which fund most major government programs beyond payroll-tax-supported ones like Social Security. The latest IRS data analyzed by the Tax Foundation, they earned 22.4% of total adjusted gross income but paid 40.4% of all federal individual income taxes, with an average effective rate of 23.1%- compared to the overall average of 14.5% and 3.7% for the bottom 50% (who paid only 3% of income taxes while earning 11.5% of AGI). But yeah, it has nothing to do with them passing those loophole laws etc, therefore we must condemn and accuse them of cheating when it’s obviously not a cheat thanks to congress in most instances. Maybe the audits need to ramp up? Either way, I can’t be mad at the people who regardless of how much of their income they spend- is still propping up half of the income of most of these services. 🤷
