Clinical cases will not have patient identifying info. Timing may be recent or years ago. Gender, age, clinical details may be changed. Respect patients always. Cases all based on experience, but do not assume actual people or recently seen. #privacy 🙏🏼 @DocPNW

Did any accountants lose their job when TurboTax came out? Will any Radiologist lose their job when AI starts being applied to #Radiology?

@ScottTruhlar So true. Then some practices just get worse and worse - ‘you couldn’t pay me enough to work there’ literally. The big salary is a red flag. Need to be somewhere that is ahead of the game wrt hiring - which requires good culture, systems, etc. a big ask in the current climate.

Today's mass email supports my ongoing series entitled "There Are No Radiologists Left to Hire At Any Price."

@LucyModahlMD I think knowledge of these options is really vital given there is a segment of trainees who have enormous educational debt, and these opportunities could be life savers for them.

The last time I got a mailing with this high of numbers was 2003. Which tells me two things. 1. There simply aren’t any Radiologist out there to hire. 2. Radiologist income hasn’t changed in 21 years.

@ScottTruhlar Some certainly were when I was training, and probably the case now. Those from the Midwest usually went back smiling. Settling in a new place far from family/friends is a complex decision - only those very focussed on income/lifestyle/weather etc seemed to do that.

@LucyModahlMD Absolutely fair point and 100% true. You may know the answer to this, but I wonder if young radiologist in training know the extent of dispersion of income across the geographic United States?

@ScottTruhlar Some states have much better reimbursement than others too. That money just isn’t on the table in the northeast.

@PMccoubrie O.K. :-) Who reports the presence of those very small (obscure!) right paratracheal diverticula near the thoracic inlet ? How about a small Foramen of Bochdalek hernia ? A small Type 1 esophageal hiatus hernia ? (I'm sporadically guilty :-)

An appeal to my fellow radiologists: Stop writing odd, highly technical or obscure normal findings in reports Can you imagine a physician writing a letter to a GP saying: “The patient has cerulean blue irises, 5mm pupils and type 5 eyebrows” It adds nothing and just confuses

@doctorb_lo @ScottTruhlar @TPP_MD We have so little control over our time and schedule as trainees for so many years that we forget that we CAN have a lot more control as practicing docs, by the jobs we choose, the amount we work etc. ‘there’ needs to be chosen and crafted, and is different for everyone.

@ScottTruhlar @TPP_MD This spoke to me. The truth is, one of the things that got me through residency was the eternal promise to myself that it gets better and this work-life balance wasn’t forever. Only to find out there’s no there-there.

When I finish medical school… When I finish residency… When I earn an attending physician paycheck… When I buy the nice house or the nice car… THAT is when I’ll be happy This line of logic fall short in reality for most. It is called an Arrival Fallacy #MedTwitter #MedX

We have done quite well with approximately 120 responses from our desired 200. It would be nice to get 50 more to shrink our confidence intervals. If you haven’t already, please respond as a contribution to unfunded academic research. Thank you all! #medtwitter

one of the great things photography taught me was to let go of the ideal way I want to control what I see and instead just start to SEE. to have a beautiful photo attacked by freak rays of light is something which used to disappoint me; it now thrills me!

Hey managers: people can love a job without letting it take over their lives. Detaching from work doesn’t reflect the absence of passion. It reveals the presence of other priorities. Being plugged in 24/7 is a recipe for burnout. Setting boundaries is vital to well-being.
