@RTWRich @CentreforCities @AndrewCities @ManMetUni That's correct - the notion that our town + city centres are all about retail was something we came to accept only in the latter half of the 20th century (relatively recently in the grand scheme of things!) but it needn't be the case.

@CentreforCities @AndrewCities @LucyUrbanDesign @ManMetUni People forget high streets want always full of shops in the way they have been since early/mid-20th century. In earlier times, they might have been a mix of taverns, coffee shops, workshops & what we might recognise as shops today. Keep good shops, not all shops. Change the use.
