The Consulate General of Israel in Toronto and Western Canada is appalled by the two antisemitic pellet gun attacks targeting visibly Jewish residents in North York on the night of May 7. One shooting took place near the Pride of Israel synagogue, another occurred near the Chasdei Bobov synagogue. Individuals were targeted outside these Toronto synagogues for one reason alone: they visibly belonged to the Jewish community. This is another link in a growing chain of antisemitic violence, intimidation, and incitement targeting the Jewish community in Canada since October 7. When Jews are repeatedly attacked in the same neighborhoods, on the same streets, by perpetrators who appear increasingly emboldened, a dangerous reality begins to take shape: an open season on Jews in Canada. We commend the Toronto Police Service for treating these incidents with the seriousness they deserve and for investigating them as suspected hate crimes. Canadian authorities must respond with urgency, determination, and zero tolerance toward the escalating antisemitic violence unfolding across the country.

The Consulate General of Israel in Toronto and Western Canada condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the two antisemitic attacks that took place in the GTA this weekend. On Saturday, a Jewish man was assaulted outside the Synagogue at the Sephardic Kehila Centre while accompanied by his child. On Sunday, a Jewish-owned store was targeted for the third time, with a rock thrown through its window. These are not isolated incidents. They are expressions of rising antisemitism, manifesting in repeated, targeted violence against the Jewish community. These events are the direct product of a climate in which antisemitism has been tolerated and permitted to take root and proliferate. What is required now is consistent action and clear consequences that restore deterrence and ensure the safety of Jewish Canadians.

Yesterday evening, the Israeli Consulate had the honor of commemorating Yom HaZikaron in partnership with Federation CJA. Together with members of the community, we gathered in solemn remembrance of Israel’s fallen soldiers and victims of terror. The ceremony was marked by dignity, reflection, and unity, as we paid tribute to those who gave their lives in defense of the State of Israel and to those whose lives were tragically taken. In observance of Yom HaShoah upcoming, yesterday Consul General @LufEliaz hosted a Zikaron BaSalon gathering with Holocaust survivors and members of the community. Hearing their testimony firsthand was deeply meaningful and extremely important. These moments remind us of our shared responsibility to bear witness—to listen, to remember, and to carry their stories forward. “Never again” is not just a phrase; it is a commitment we must uphold every day. A huge thank you goes to the survivors for sharing their stories. We will never forget.

🥇🇮🇱 ISRAEL WINS GOLD AT THE 2026 IIHF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP! History has been made in Sofia, Bulgaria. Team Israel defeated Iceland 5–2 in the final game of the tournament to capture 1st place and the Gold Medal at the 2026 IIHF World Championship – Division II Group B. Since Hezbollah began its attacks unprovoked on March 2nd, it has indiscriminately fired roughly 6,500 missiles, rockets and drones at Israeli communities and citizens. The IDF action in Lebanon was a precise strike, based on intelligence, aimed at dozens of terror targets: Hezbollah command centers manned by terrorists, weapons depots and launch sites. The vast majority of the casualties were Hezbollah terrorists. No other military in the world is able to strike so precisely with minimal civilian casualties. Unfortunately, despite its commitment to do so in the November 2024 ceasefire - the Lebanese government hadn’t disarmed Hezbollah, as we can all clearly see today.

Toronto 🇨🇦 - A business owned by a prominent and activist member of the Jewish community was shot at last night. This was not random. It is part of a growing and dangerous pattern of antisemitic violence. Repeated targeting of Jewish individuals, businesses, and institutions is creating a climate of intimidation. Statements of concern are no longer sufficient. What is required now is enforcement, deterrence, and a clear demonstration that antisemitic violence carries consequences.
