I wrote this last month, about the rise of so-called 'private police' forces - and what it says about the public's confidence in law enforcement. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

This is our inside look at what went so wrong at the ONS. We spoke to over 20 insiders who peeled back the curtain, revealing deep-seated problems from accusations of bullying to chaos at the top of stats body. Lots of new stuff in there. Read below 👇

It looks like the UK and EU have reached a deal on food. I spoke to some food exporters back in January about the post-Brexit red tape they were facing. One had to send samples of popcorn on a passenger flight to Spain, to stop it getting held at customs.

@galendruke I've been a loyal listener from across the pond. In 2020 Spotify told me I'd spent something like 3,000 minutes listening (a bit embarrassing given I can't vote in the US). Thank you to you and colleagues for making it!

Sadly, 538 is shutting down and that goes for my role too. It’s been a privilege making the politics podcast for the past nine years, so a really big thank you to everyone who tuned in! There are a bunch of talented journalists newly on the market as of today -- my colleagues. Consider me a reference for all of them. As for me, I think I’ve still got some podcasting left to do 🤓. Please go subscribe to what comes next at GDPOLITICS [dot] com. You'll find some longer reflections on today's news there as well. Also, if you’d like to work with me in any capacity, get in touch! I know days like these are rough, but I remain an optimist 🫶

Thanks Jeff Lawson for buying the Onion so we could get this great zoom in on electoral coverage. No other news source has gone to this level of detail.

I was on @BBCFreeThinking on Friday talking about empathy in reading and in journalism. Then I heard @bbcpaddy this morning uniting two people who have lost so much in the war between Israel and Hamas. “This is how we become human again.” Do listen if you can, from 30 mins in bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…

Deliberately exposing somebody to a disease used to be a taboo. Now researchers are doing it more and more - with enormous benefits promised. But some scientists told me they worry that ethical red lines are being crossed. Me for @BBC_Future bbc.com/future/article…
