A sad day, as we bid farewell to an American broadcast institution. My duties at @WWJ950 included the occasional network report. My first was in 2022, when one million Metro Detroiters were under a boil water advisory. What a pleasure working with so many outstanding journalists.

Beneath the gruff exterior, Pat Caputo was a funny, caring man who knew more about Detroit sports than anyone I’ve ever known. It was uncanny, almost scary, how much he recalled and recited. I miss his voice, the most-imitated grumble in Detroit media history.

Strong thunderstorms last night left parts of Metro Detroit with damage. In St. Clair Shores, part of a tree fell onto a home across the street from Lake Shore High School. Damage was also reported in Eastpointe and Roseville. 📸: WWJ's Luke Sloan

A new Meijer opens one week from today at the corner of Rochester Road and Tienken, just north of downtown Rochester. Meijer celebrated the grand opening today by donating $15,000 to Leader Dogs for the Blind. 📹: WWJ's Luke Sloan

The first of 250 flashing stop signs have been installed in front of Pardee Elementary School in Dearborn Heights, an intersection where a 12-year-old boy was hit and killed in 2022. Parents are happy, and feel the area is much safer for their children.

A water main break has closed the intersection of South Center and Fairbrook Street in Northville. The break was first reported at 3:30 a.m. Crews are on scene making repairs. The area will be shut down until further notice. 📹: WWJ's Luke Sloan

The historic Leland House in downtown Detroit will soon be up for auction, the latest in a dramatic saga that began in November, when the building's owner filed for bankruptcy. WWJ's Luke Sloan reports residents will soon be let back into the building to gather their belongings.

Dozens of cars were left with flat tires this morning after hitting a large pothole in the right lane of northbound I-75 after McNichols. Some drivers made it to a nearby gas station. MDOT has confirmed with WWJ that the pothole will be filled this morning. 📹: WWJ's Luke Sloan

University of Michigan students are waking up to heavy damage from last night’s storms. The roof was partially ripped off Yost Arena. Several trees have fallen onto homes. The National Weather Service is investigating to see if this was a tornado. There are no injuries. @WWJ950.
