The energy transition happens often in unlikely places at unprecedented rates. Take Nepal: Over the past year, electric vehicles accounted for 76 percent of all passenger vehicles and half of the light commercial vehicles sold in Nepal. Five years ago, that number was essentially zero.

@lewis_goodall Looks like an image from another time, a historical drama (but still respect and thanks to those who worked hard, many did).

I don't think enough has been made of this by the climate community - UK energy far more secure from blackouts because of battery storage, interconnectors and additional renewable energy. news.sky.com/story/britains…

'Don't tell me you don't want to be out on strike - because that is exactly where you are. Own it.' As resident doctors walk out again, @wesstreeting calls out the 'reprehensible and cartel-like behaviour' of their union.

Superb analysis - BUT little evidence that carbon targets have stopped the West mining rare earths (Climate folks have banged on for 10yrs about the supply chain). More a. lack of long-term, consistent industrial policy (vs China) and b. ⬆️ concern for local impact.
Sam Coates Sky@SamCoatesSky

This brilliant @EdConwaySky screen isn’t (only) about Rare Earths It explains the “China row” in Westminster. China’s dominance producing stuff needed for everyday electronics - and the cheap price we are all hooked on - is forcing compromise 🎥

This from 1989 was the best speech a leader has given on climate change at the UN General Assembly. Conservatives care about what we leave behind to our children and grandchildren.

The growth of grid-scale batteries in the US continues to explode. Over the last 12 months, the country added 13.2 GW of battery capacity—50% more than a year ago. 🧵

Stop saying it can't be done. Can you imagine 74 straight days in 2025 with >100% WindWaterSolar on the California ISO grid? Well it has happened. Plus 115 of 147 (78%) days in 2025 have experienced >100% WWS, for an average of 4.9 h/day among all 147 days.

This is one of the the largest heat pumps in the world (60MW). It is located in Esbjerg, DK and provides heating for 100,000 people. The heat pump replaced coal-fired thermal generation using Denmark's electricity which is 2/3 from wind and solar.

Such a critical analysis. But also this isn't just about one journo/moment. Systematically, we need to ensure political/business journos have access/briefings/info on the huge changes afoot (climate/energy is far more an economic issue than before).

This article by @jamesrbuk gives such a great feel for supply chains, the relentless focus on cost, and the role of govt backed infrastructure. So important to understand for industrial strategy.
