I kind of dislike how the names of the individual artists that did the drawing, sculpting and painting of the Jurassic Park dinosaurs end up kind of diminished whenever the designs are just referred to as the "Stan Winston designs".

I have to add my voice to the chorus: there is nothing more insulting, disempowering, or a surer sign that you’re working with hacks (& there are many, wedged into middle management in AAA) than receiving an AI moodboard as a concept artist, and I need to talk about it

What mainstream AAA media seems to think modern dinosaurs look like is in many ways kind of further from modern dinosaurs than 1990s era dinosaurs looked.

These concept busts being a widely circulated image have kinda gaslit the Jurassic Park fandom into remembering the actual on-screen sexual dimorphism in the The Lost World's Tyrannosaurus as being way different and far more pronounced than it really was.

Assorted 3D dinosaur (and dinosaur adjacent 😉) things by yours truly. And many more are currently in development!

Forgot to announce I have a new paper out this week! Animals that are more front-heavy have thicker, differently shaped forelimb bones to deal with the extra load. Limb bones alone may thus be useful proxies for body shape - but posture complicates things. royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs…
