Reception children enjoyed a fabulous day at the Deep, all linked to our topic of water. Highlights included the ice wall, penguins, jellyfish and sharks.
Reception children are loving trying to make a bird’s nest. They have studied a real nest and have collected nature’s favourite objects to make their own. It’s been made with lots of love.

Reception have been exploring porridge oats by using a range of containers to fill, pour and scoop. This is linked to our story this week of ‘Goldilocks and the three bears’.
In Reception we have been learning about pattern. We have found patterns around school and started to make some repeating patterns using objects in the classroom.
Reception have been celebrating Chinese New Year. We’ve made patterns, dragons, pancakes and learnt the story of Chinese New Year as well as a bit of Mandarin. We all know it is the year of the Tiger.
Reception are learning about metal. They know some metals are magnetic. They did a metal hunt using magnets. They also made letters and shapes using magnets.
What a fun afternoon Year 1 have experienced! They have made Mayan hot chocolate which has chilli and cinnamon in it. They loved it. However, nobody enjoyed eating natural cacao as it was very bitter!
Year 1 are enjoying learning about Mayan pots. They know they are made of clay and had patterns on them. Here they are exploring and manipulating the clay and using tools. Next week, they will make their own Mayan pot.
Reception children asked to make kites. They were very busy learning how to make diamond shapes (squares turned on their sides) by cutting corners off rectangles.
Reception children have been learning about materials. They know that paper comes from trees. They are now learning to make their own paper from recycled materials.
