Residents of the Sarraj area, west of Tripoli, have staged a protest outside the local office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), calling on the agency to immediately vacate its premises and stop all activities involving foreign migrants and refugees in the neighborhood.
The protesters gathered in front of the UNHCR building, voicing strong opposition to the agency’s operations, which they claim have turned the area into a hub for migrants.
They demanded that the refugee agency cease dealing with foreign nationals altogether and relocate its facilities elsewhere.
The organizers warned that if their demands were not met promptly, the protest would be escalated, with further actions to follow.
Authorities arrested a man who had disguised himself in women’s clothing after he was discovered inside a women-only wedding hall in Benghazi, local reports said.
The suspect allegedly entered the venue, which was restricted to female guests, with the intention of photographing the women and girls attending the celebration. He was apprehended inside the hall before he could carry out his plan further.
Some women at the event are reported to have grown suspicious of the individual’s behavior and clothing, leading to his identification and immediate arrest.
