AT&T cup just proves there’s no point trying to make a FG that appeals to the non FGC. People will complain and find excuses no matter how “easy” you make it. Might as well make the game what you want instead of trying to appeal to “everyone”

Zenos being a foil to the WoL is a really forced interpretation of their relationship bordering on headcanon. WoL has no personality and it's easy to claim someone as strong as they are is X with or without some sort of Y. The reason he was shoved into a rival position was because of his popularity, and he overstayed his welcome in Endwalker, where the writers sold away all narrative integrity for a crumb of fanservice. (For example, Midgardsormr not being the one to aid WoL against the Endsinger in Ultima Thule to pay off his debt to Hyedalyn instead of Shinryu Zenos). I'm comparing Makishima to Zenos on the basis that Zenos should've been the one actively testing the WoL's values and acting as someone above any and all systems, morality, empathy, etc. Trying to break the WoL as the antagonist. Zenos did really do any of that, he really didn't do anything at all, he really had no purpose or served any significant role in the story past Stromblood. If he didn't exist past Stormblood it wouldn't have affected the story in the slightest. He was a character that they seemingly had plans for but they took the cheap route and had him stand around until they can shove in a fight at the end of EW for no reason and gaslight the players into thinking he was this significant rival this entire time. Zenos is not that deep. One of the shallowest characters in XIV. They had no idea wtf to do with the guy.

The narrative and thematic importance of Zenos is so obvious that it feels like being hit over the head with a brick, but people SOMEHOW manage to keep downplaying his importance to not only Endwalker, but FFXIVs entire overarching narrative.
