@Subnautica To Krafton: Just pay the bonuses that were promised to the developers that deserve it. It's bad enough that you fired everyone in leadership right before said payout. I've been a long time fan of Subnautica for years but I won't hesitate to completely avoid it if nothing improves

@Prowl8413 @axynim PBR textures do work that way, yes. PBR is just an acronym for Physically Based Rendering so in this context it's more of an adjective used to describe rendering techniques that follow some sort of physical basis. Doesn't make sense to call it a menu where settings are altered.

@MADLAD3718 @axynim The PBR is really just needed to define how the light interacts with the different blocks right? But it also is a place where the raytracing settings can be altered.

Not that it'll make a difference, but maybe I need to do a video on this. Rtx can run on Xbox series, ps5, switch 2, and pc. It looks better, performs better, and is more customizable than vibrant visuals.

@MailsonYT I've spent two years working on BetterRTX to keep the playerbase alive. Mojang has made this decision despite hundreds of thousands choosing to install a third party mod just to keep using ray tracing. If that didn't convince them to continue work on it, I don't know what will.

@axynim @Prowl8413 Strictly by your definitions, Minecraft uses "true ray tracing" (it is path-traced, more specifically). PBR textures are not necessary for it, and the hardware lock in place just checks for DXR feature level capabilities.

@MADLAD3718 @Prowl8413 Further clarification: Minecraft with RTX is ray tracing. Nvidia's implementation with a PBR texture support. True Ray tracing does not require any PBR. True Ray tracing is not hardware dependent (outside of hardware supporting the actual Ray tracing)

@axynim @Prowl8413 AMD's 6000 series GPUs supported ray tracing in Minecraft since the early RTX betas in summer 2020, and they have remained supported since then. It's also good to note that ray tracing in Minecraft never existed before Render Dragon.

@MADLAD3718 @Prowl8413 Wow, wasn't expecting this depth of confusion. "RTX" is Nvidia branded implementation of Ray Tracing. In their own stack, including DLSS. Minecraft (pre render dragon) built a heavily hardcoded RTX stack. You could not run MC with RTX for Win10 on non-Nvidia cards. Period.

@axynim @Prowl8413 This just isn't correct at all. Minecraft's Ray Tracing implementation is genuinely using ray tracing, and PBR textures just inform the engine how light should interact with each object. RTX is a proprietary name, but Minecraft RTX is NOT a proprietary Nvidia feature.

@Prowl8413 @MADLAD3718 RTX isn't the same as ray tracing. RTX is Nvidia's proprietary implementation of Ray Tracing, using Ray Tracing & other tech. Mojang's RTX implementation was also not Ray Tracing, but PBR textures to simulate something similar to ray tracing. Do a LOT of research, and branch out

@MADLAD3718 @MailsonYT Oh, for clarification. RTX is proprietary to Nvidia - it is their own branding for live ray tracing, including AI enhanced gfx. Utilization of RTX requires proprietary nvidia chips utilizing nvidia's tensor cores.

@axynim @MailsonYT AMD RDNA completely supports ray tracing in Minecraft on both PC and console. For PC anyone with a moden AMD graphics card can turn it on and for console you can find footage of both the original Series X demo and for a preview that accidentally included RTX on the Xbox.

@MADLAD3718 @MailsonYT Correct. Console would need to support RTX. They do not. This was a technical limitation, not a contractual one. Xbox X/S, PS 5 are both AMD RDNA. Older gen used AMD GCN, while Nintendo did use a Tegra for Switch, it did not support RTX, including DLSS.

@GameLinkers1 @Prowl8413 They still need to be involved. From a technical perspective, Mojang has full access to their source and the BetterRTX team can only modify a small part of it. Additionally BetterRTX isn't my job, and can't be. I work on it solely when I have the free time to do so.

@_MINECRAFT_LIVE Mojang's blatant disregard for supporting the feature started years before Vibrant Visuals was ever in development. I've even personally adapted the Vibrant Visuals style into RTX through a mod. They had every opportunity to update RTX with the new style in mind and chose not to.

@MADLAD3718 I honestly prefer them working on improving vibrant visuals further more than focus on rtx which realistically speaking would work only high end pc and ps5 and Xbox. Plus vibrant visuals kinda fits Minecraft a lot more than RTX

Mojang has finally officially admitted that they will no longer be introducing any further changes to Ray Tracing in Minecraft. Even what's written here is objectively false, RTX barely works anymore and DLSS doesn't work on any 50 series graphics card! minecraft.net/en-us/article/…

@al3xis5_ We migrated the installer over to running through our website API so users no longer have to download a script, so there are more installations that remain unaccounted for. The total amount of players who use or have used RTX is likely much higher.
