Almost all Somalis oppose the current president, except those benefiting from him politically or financially. He is known for corruption and nepotism, and many fear Turkey’s support for him is damaging the strong brotherly image Turkey still has among Somalis.

As we discussed today with our European partners our shared commitment to democracy, constitutionalism, peace and security, and economic transformation, our citizens were casting their votes across Southwest State, a practical expression of Somalia’s democratic progress.
