Y'all... I'm thrilled to announce that my first children's book, THE DAY LEAP SOARED, will be coming out this October! It's illustrated magnificently by @usuallyawake. I've admired her art for sooo long, and was over the moon to work with her. The colors! The heart! The DOGS!

Seeing your posts about Grunch and crying happy tears. We are so lucky to share in our love for Granch with so many amazing, kind, beautiful people. I know he’d be hugging every one of us right now. And in some world, he is. #uglydogs

This is a celebration of those whom I've worked beside and all of the athletes who have shared their victory and defeat with me.
I’m honoured and humbled to be receiving the King Charles III Coronation Medal from the Governor General for my reporting.

This by Anita Vandenbeld on what happened at Status of Women last week is very worthwhile reading.
I still think the attempt to pivot to the abortion study motion was crass, but the broader point about abusing committees still stands. nationalnewswatch.com/2024/08/07/the…

Because I am a sucker for punishment, as soon as Canada's Greatest Song ends in a few weeks we will begin our next poll series: Canada's Favourite TV Show.
Make your suggestions! I want a healthy mix of shows from across Canada. French-Canadian, children's, miniseries, docu-series, etc.
The requirement is the show has to be filmed in Canada, as a Canadian production with mostly Canadian actors.
American productions that were filmed in Canada, like The X-Files, won't qualify.
Yes, I know that this has already been done by Justin McElroy a few years ago. Not trying to copy that, just enjoy creating these polls and starting dialogue among my followers.
Contest will begin around May 21.

@francisxwolf If you haven't lived it you can't imagine it. I wasn't "tired", it was like I had been drugged. I took a lot of sick leave (which I was lucky to have paid) before the pain and fatigue were manageable. I'm extremely lucky, many others don't get to that point.
English

@francisxwolf When I first got rheumatoid arthritis 7 years ago, the fatigue was so crushing. I could only do 1 of the tasks necessary to feed myself -shop, cook, or clean up- but not all 3. I lived on take out, & then a meal service before my disease was under control.

@BlairBraverman @outsidemagazine I love that they gave you four and a half pages in the print edition too!! I picked up my copy on the weekend. Well done!!

@garrettelliott I started with subtitles a long time ago when I was watching a Brit crime show that had really thick Scottish accents. I kept them on afterwards when I realized subtitles made ALL shows much easier to follow.
English

We've been watching everything with subtitles since before our kids were born (and our oldest is almost 17). They've watched more shows and movies with subtitles than without, which is kind of weird to think about.

@DennisWormald I'm lucky with my girl. I just have to drop a pill in with her kibble. She eats it so quickly she never notices any pills. Just gobbles it all up!

Some tablets can be very bitter! I have a few tricks below:
1. Hide in a paste-like food such as xylitol-free peanut butter, and have them lick it. Because it's like a liquid, they tend to not chew, and don't notice any small tablets.
2. Another method is to hide the tablet in some food like a piece of cheese. Then give an empty piece of cheese before and after the one with the tablet inside. You give all three in a row quickly, and they quickly swallow the second piece to make room for the third.
3. Finally, if hiding in food doesn't work, you can learn to put the tablet down the throat manually. This is sometimes necessary for picky eaters who can't be fooled by hiding in food. The best trick for learning to do this is to practise your skills as a tablet giver, by using a piece of food as though it is the tablet itself. This way when you accidentally drop the pretend-tablet (food) on their tongue, they get to eat the treat, rather than getting a nasty bitter surprise! Another tip is that most people don't push the tablet far enough back. Also, always give treats before and after doing this!

@itslaylas If you can get your hands on a product called Skunk Off, it might help. Comes in shampoo and a soaker product. Amazon and local vets should have it. Worked well on my dogs when the got sprayed. Good luck! That is the most vile substance.
English

72 hours since i was sprayed w/ skunk on campus: zero appetite, keep on throwing up, and i feel terrible. very fatigued and having trouble sleeping. skunk has not come out of my hair after 11 showers.

48 hours since I was sprayed: have washed my hair over 9 times (with multiple shampoos) and the skunk will not come out. Still nauseous, fatigued, and my endometriosis symptoms are awful. Dealing with severe chronic pain.

@garrettelliott @aprilelliott Love it! I annoy even myself with how often I pause a show/movie to check stats on IMBD. How tall is he? What else was she in? What is their age difference? I was SHOCKED that my sister hadn't even ever heard of IMDB.😮
