MA CEAL recognizes this time as a chance to highlight the journeys and successes of those who are experiencing mental health struggles and the resources that can provide support.

Since 1949, the month of May has been observed as Mental Health Awareness Month. For these past 76 years, the US has slowly moved toward a healthier outlook and attitudes regarding mental health, and this month serves as a reminder of how much further we can go!

The month of May is a time to celebrate the Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Native Hawaiian experience and their contributions to American history, culture, and advancements in health care.

One of the most important aspects of Sexual Assault Awareness is staying informed on facts and resources. The National Sexual Violence Resource Center shares data collected from the past few decades and shows statistics in America’s current day culture and society.

If you need assistance, call SafeLink, a 24/7 statewide domestic violence and sexual assault referral hotline, at 1-877-785-2020. The Massachusetts Office for Victim Assistance offers free resources for victims, survivors and providers at 844-878-MOVA or mass.gov/askMOVA.

The month of April holds space for the important topic of sexual assault awareness and the widespread struggles of sexual abuse in our society. It is a yearly reminder of how much we need to progress on this issue but also gives us a chance to reflect on how far we’ve come.

As March is Developmental Disability Awareness Month, it is a great time to increase our own awareness about this issue. We want to share some examples of developmental disabilities; what they are, common risk factors, different types, and how we can increase our understanding.
