Another attempt to undermine the Social Security system. If Musk and his team of muskrats are such technical wizards, let them update the antiquated SSA computer system rather than firing workers so critical to the delivery of customer service.

SSA extends start date for new identity proving procedures by two weeks to April 14. New rules, including two-step authentication, applies to those newly applying for SS benefits or changing their bank direct deposit info.

Social Security Administration says millions of affected public sector retirees would receive lump sum retroactive benefits in March and larger monthly payments beginning in April as a result of the Social Security Fairness Act. SSA originally estimated it would take a year.

Acting Social Security commissioner Michelle King stepped down this weekend after clashing with Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, the New York Times and Washington Post reported. King refused to provide access to closely held SSA data about millions of Americans.

@BruceDSteiner I look forward to reading future guidance from the Social Security Administration about how it will review claims for those people currently affected by WEP and GPO reductions. The bill says the two provisions will be repealed for payments due after December 2023.

@MBFretirepro Suppose S1 worked in private sector and S2 for government. Both over 70. S1 got benefits since age 70. S2 couldn’t due to GPO. Does S2 now apply or does S1 amend his application? How far back can S2 get benefits? Bill goes back about a year but usual rule is 6 months.
