Rumors of the SEC’s demise and downturn appear drastically overstated on day 1 of the NCAA Tournament. 5-0 overall. SEC Tournament Champ Arkansas rolls. Vanderbilt wins comfortably. Two double digit seeds win— Texas and A&M. Played like the top-ranked KenPom league.

@Mitch_Harper It wasn’t about the money - he got big $$$ offers from many schools. Now if BYU hadn’t have put in a competitive offer then it might have ended up being about the money, but we will never know that. Kids a good player, hopefully helps BYU make a run and has great NBA career

@CodyLangford798 @jacksettleman First off - AZ is Southwest not west coast. Secondly - Big12, we aren’t playing those soft WC teams anymore (which I admit was a problem for us come tourney time in past) - AZ is battle hardened, tried and tested this year.

If you want to compare AZ to Mich (most similar opp for Wisc I think) the big diff is AZ won’t stupidly jack 3’s. Mich made 60% in paint but that didn’t stop 2 bench morons from 2-10 from 3 in their loss. Az will live in paint.

@BuriedTreys Just want to point out that last year UH FL went down to wire, then FL lost 3G to NBA and replaced with a couple dog walkers. UH lost 1G and replaced with a lotto pick. UH stayed the same, UF got worse but luckily so did rest of SEC so they stayed on top. UH will beat FL.

I have a feeling Houston will be an extremely trendy F4 pick for people's brackets. But here's their primary issue: Compare their overall defensive efficiency, and specifically, their defensive TO% when playing up in competition. Season: 5th best defense, 12th forcing turnovers (21%) vs T25 teams: 48th best defense, 137th forcing turnovers (14.6%) And the lack of turnovers is a double whammy b/c it means less fastbreak opportunities and more half-court offense AND...look at some of the teams in their bracket matchup-wise... Illinois: 5-out offense, 3 mismatch hunters, extremely skilled and multiple massive bigs, 10th nationally in allowing turnovers. Maybe the best recipe in the country to battle that Cougs' defense in that regard. Vandy: 2x point guards, 3x elite shooters (hell, even Okereke is hitting 3's), high assist rate, high 3PRate, 11th nationally allowing turnovers. Less ideal than the Illini but still pretty optimal all considered. Nebraska: 2 (albeit smaller) ball handlers, multiple elite weakside shooters especially if Mast wants to join the party, ultra-high 3P+Asst Rates, 36th in allowing turnovers And that's if they don't draw Florida who can wipe away one of Houston's best sources of offense in 2nd chance points

I just don't get the 4 seed. UF is a 1. Arkansas has 26 wins, just like UF, in the same SEC, while playing a tougher non-con. They are 15-4 in SEC games, Ark is 16-5. Arkansas won the SEC tourny, & was 2nd in the Reg season. Make it make sense.1st Team All-American, SEC POTY too.

@Dalton_Kates Have to add conference play into equation right? Florida is top 10 on O because they played in a conf that had no answer for their physicality, which allowed them to hide sub-standard G play. Assuming they advance to E8 and get UH that is gonna cost em. UH is the bet.
