@PatsKam Almost as If lies have been told for people to not start asking why the average joe is living way worse in one of the richest countrys than in GDP wise poorer ones

I can't afford to go to a World Cup game. Yet all these fans from 3rd world countries are flying over, staying in jacked up overpriced hotels, and then spending $5k per ticket. Are we all being told lies? Is America poor or is it just me?

Americans are talking a lot of shit for a country that has the highest income gap between the wealthy and the rest of the population. None of you are wealthy, you are simply living on credit and pretending you are. We may pay high taxes but we won’t go bankrupt from a dr’s visit!

Guys, I think I'm gonna be sad when the World Cup ends. The people we've been hosting have been great. The Scots, the Japanese, the Germans; they've been great guests. Sure, Boston's probably worried for their booze, but it's been great. Like I know they need to go back, and that the World Cup has to end as all things do... but maybe we can invite them back over for another event?

my take on this as that no, they really don’t, but europeans are just happier with less as compared to americans. europeans generally have their basic needs met in terms of healthcare, pensions, etc. it makes them (generally) comfortable, but complacent (which is fine, no right or wrong here). people have basic needs met and don’t strive for big houses or a swimming pool or nice cars or nice clothes or fancy hotels or whatever. they are happier with a lot less, but it’s kind of disingenuous to say it’s the *same* quality of life. in some ways their quality is better, in others it’s worse, but they don’t care about the things they lack as much as americans care about the stuff we lack
