James Madison — 150.0 A 163 CFI placed Oklahoma 5th nationally, confirming what the defense looked like on the field all season.

One of the greatest Defensive Ends to ever wear the Crimson & Cream — and maybe one of the most underrated Sooners of all time. Cedric Jones was good enough to start on any Oklahoma defensive line, in any era. Still the only Sooner to record 5 sacks in a single game and also set the OU record with 6 tackles for loss in that same dominant performance vs. Texas Tech in 1994. Some players are remembered because of the teams they played on. Others were simply great — Cedric Jones was GREAT.

Edward, here’s one of those amazing Bud Wilkinson-era recruiting nuggets. From 1953–1960, Coach Wilkinson recruited 9 players from Breckenridge High School (Texas) to Oklahoma. Before that run? Zero Sooners from Breckenridge. After that run? Zero Sooners from Breckenridge. BJ, I use both, but take a look at OU’s offensive performance in the ’70s — it’s almost unbelievable. During that decade, Oklahoma finished Top 10 nationally 8 times in Total Offense and 8 times in Scoring Offense.Unreal production. Yes, the wishbone was a “high risk, high reward” offense, but OU was so explosive and efficient that they could overcome turnovers at a level most teams simply couldn’t. The numbers back it up — look at the CFI ratings under Barry Switzer and Galen Hall. That wasn’t just a great running offense… that was one of the most dominant offensive eras in college football history.

A little spring football from Lincoln Christian’s only scrimmage back in late May. Proud Grandpa moment — sophomore-to-be lefty Major Brooks getting reps as QB1 for the defending State Champs. He’s blessed to be surrounded by an experienced, talented O-line and some serious playmakers at WR/RB. A lot of work still ahead, but this group has a chance to be special. Can’t wait for the season.

Leon Cross, The original 6th year Senior. Came to OU in 1957 as a Freshman from Hobbs, New Mexico. Missed all of 1958 due to a summer accident and lost 1959 season because of a knee injury before the season opener. In 1960 started most of the season. 1961 Starter at Right Guard. Voted Co-Captain in 1962, third year as a Starter All-Big 8 and NCAA All-American. He earned that nickname "Old Rugged Cross" Great Sooner.
