Madhana covered gov employees. Ordinary Maldivian citizens had to beg and write letters to Theemuge for assistance with their medical needs. Only a few would get it. In 2008, Anni campaigned on expanding social protections, including universal healthcare. People voted for that and he introduced Aasandha scheme. It provided health coverage to every Maldivian citizen holding a valid national ID card. Initially, it came with an annual cap of 100,000 MVR per person (covering inpatient and outpatient care, medicines and more on a cashless basis where possible). So please stop spreading lies. This is not ancient history. Here’s a photo of $5,000 that Maumoon paid to a Mohamed Shareef for his medical treatment as a gift from the gov budget. That’s how it operated before Aasandha.

Highly respected financial expert @saruvash is joining MDP and running for Thinadhu MDP Raees. A Chevening Scholar with a Masters in Economics at University of Nottingham (UK) and an Australia Awards alumnus, he has held several senior positions, including Chief Financial Budget Executive at Ministry of Finance, Chairman of MIRA and board member of MMA and Pension Office. He resigned from Pension Office board in protest against a controversial plan to sell a large gov bond worth 2.4 billion MVR to MMA. He stepped down citing serious concerns over its legal, economic and long term fiscal risks and to uphold principles of prudence, integrity and institutional independence.

Addu Mayor Nizar openly endorsed Anni for MDP Chairperson and Fayyaz for president in a tweet just an hour ago. Now, I’m noticing Male’ City Mayor Azim really enjoying Anni’s speech. Hearts can change in a split second.

I request everyone not to send me any negative comments about @MickailNaseem. I will not entertain them. If I were simply looking for someone to run the day to day administration of MDP, I’d vote for Mickail without hesitation. He has more time, greater energy, likely brings fresh, innovative ideas to the table. But I’m supporting @MohamedNasheed cause he’s offering something far greater than just party management. He’s proposing a profound ideological shift, a new trajectory for both the party and the country, along with major structural reforms. These kinds of transformative changes can only be credibly championed by someone with legitimacy, a leader who has endured the struggle, governed the nation and dedicated decades to the cause. That is what I value most. Anni’s deputy chairperson could handle the daily operations and I believe someone young and energetic would be excellent in that role. If MDP were currently in gov, I might well have supported Mickail. But we are in opposition and the needs of this moment are different. Both Mickail and Anni are outstanding leaders in their own right. I’ve chosen Anni cause the package he is offering is fundamentally different. Mickail is selling strengthening party administration and preparing effectively for 2028, which is valuable, which is great, but Anni is presenting a much broader vision for renewal. I hope this clarifies my position. What I seek for MDP and Maldives at this juncture is what @MohamedNasheed is offering.
