Yesterday, members of our community, policing partners, and LPS leadership had the honour of welcoming Michelle Douglas—veteran, human rights advocate, and survivor of Canada’s LGBT Purge. As Executive Director of the LGBT Purge Fund and the Canadian Armed Forces’ first Honorary Colonel for Professional Conduct and Culture, Michelle has dedicated over 30 years to advancing 2SLGBTQI+ rights. Her landmark legal challenge in 1992 helped end the military’s discriminatory policies, and her ongoing work continues to shape a more inclusive Canada. Michelle shared her powerful story of resilience, justice, and hope—reminding us of the importance of listening, learning, and building trust.
