@DaveBuzan Oh, I love this film and it's a frequent rewatch. I actually force it on anyone visiting. Have you seen Lake Placid? The answer is usually 'no', and then they get it!

"Lake Placid" was released on this day in 1999. Entertaining creature feature from director Steve Miner and screenwriter David E. Kelley. Highlights: Spectacular 30-foot animatronic crocodile by Stan Winston; terrific editing by Paul Hirsch; excellent John Ottman score. While the majority of audiences stayed away from the waters of "Lake Placid" (it barely recouped its production budget), the film became a sensational success on home video and cable. Its DTV sequels were also popular, with the entire series finding a new audience now on streaming services. The cast here is superb (particularly Bridget Fonda), balancing the horror and comedy elements with equal aplomb. Expertly directed by Steve Miner, too. One of my ten favorite films of 1999.

Did I tell you guys I have been watching Breaking Bad for the first time? Just started the fourth season. I am years late to many shows. I only watched Mad Men a couple years ago and still haven't seen The Sopranos.

@adrianmckinty @simonmontefiore I always found Zhivago a bit of a slog. The mirror structure of Lawrence - clarity/darkness - is superb, and Bridge is a continuous buildup… I give Lawrence a small edge, but it’s close.

@simonmontefiore I don't know if the final acts of Zhivago or Lawrence completely work... but I do know that no one ever goes for a cup of tea or changes the channel in the final act of The Bridge On The River Kwai
