Bobby Rush, American politician, activist, pastor, and the U.S. Representative for Illinois. As a civil rights activist during the 1960s, Rush co-founded the Illinois chapter of the Black Panthers. He is responsible for USA's anti-lynching bill passed 2/26/2020.

Octavia Butler's novels are noteworthy for their unique synthesis of science fiction, mysticism, mythology, and African American spiritualism. Butler was the first science fiction writer to be awarded a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship and a PEN Award for lifetime achievement.

BHM Fact 2/6/20: Before he was a renowned artist, Romare Bearden was also a talented baseball player. He was recruited by the Philadelphia Athletics on the pretext that he would agree to pass as white. He turned down the offer, instead choosing to work on his art.

BHM 2/4/20:The 6888th was the first and only all Black Female Women Army Corps (WAC) unit to be deployed overseas during WWII. The unit was active from 1945 to 1946 and consisted of 855 women under the Command of Major Charity Adams. Their nickname was “Six-Triple Eight".
