On Juneteenth and every day, we’re reminded that Black voices are essential in the fight to end gun violence; for their safety is necessary in our pursuit of collective liberation.

“How should brands & companies properly handle Juneteenth?” is such a loaded question b/c we have to first understand that the capitalist economy itself is organized around anti-Black racism. It’s not a byproduct or a legacy of slavery, it’s the foundation of its organization.

To the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Class of 2021,

(4/4) This statistic can be attributed towards the gun-sense legislation that U.S Judge Roger Benitez is in efforts to repeal. As our state and our country grapple with resuming life as it was before COVID, we must not allow gun violence in any form to become our new normal.

(3/4)...and why they do not belong in the hands of civilians. Although California faces mass shootings, California is ranked one of the safest states in terms of gun violence prevention.

(1/4) MFOL California condemns Judge Benitez’s insensitive comparison between a swiss-pocket knife and an assault weapon. An assault weapon can murder tens and hundreds of people within seconds whereas a swiss-pocket knife accounts for just a fraction of that.

In his ruling overturning California’s landmark assault weapons ban, the judge likened an AR-15 to a “Swiss army knife." That is an insult to all families and communities torn apart by gun violence and those who have lost loved ones. It must not be allowed to stand.
