Just got my first beta feedback on Book 3 from someone I greatly respect. “There’s definitely a shift in both maturity and skill from the first book to the last.” This statement alone has me ready to jump for joy! 😀

The last few months I've been re-reading Jane Austens work. My favorite remains Pride and Prejudice, while my least favorite is Emma. What about you?

What's your favorit Dickens title? I'm reading Great Expectations for the first time. (I've not read anything else by him yet.)

MY DEBUT EARNED OUT! It's taken 3 years + 1 month to earn back the £470 I spent on cover, editing, isbns, merch etc. Considering all the factors against me/this book, I'm so freaking proud. It's the *first* book I wrote in English. I hope I can hit 350 copies sold this month 👀

Hi, we’re @Draft2Digital. We’ll take more from what little commission you’re getting from any sales than when you just offer your books directly. Now, we will also now make you pay us when you don’t sell enough. Already took everything off there. Now deleting account.

I would be as upset with Draft2digital right now, if there was a barrier free way for all all regardless of expirience or income, to reach libraries.

@KoalaQuillHQ Possibly. I would have liked to be a fly on the wall for that discussion and decision.

@MGWriting I think they came up with the fees first, then worked backwards to invent author-approved reasons to justify them.

I dont think a $12 fee at draft2digital will stop AI slop. The more books you gave the more likely you will make more then 100 and have the fee saved. If I upload 100 AI books I only have to sell ine each to hit that... but actually writing takes longer so less books.

@DarranSF For me it's my Mom and four sisters. They all take turns depending on the book and how busy they are.

@jmgwritten They could have chosen several other ways to curb bad actors that dont hurt small authors. So I am going to have to disagree wuth you. It takes time to build a wide audience. Just becouse someone isnt bringing in over 100 year doant mean they arnt trying, or should be penalized.

No, but it will make it easier to find those accounts that are behaving badly and limit or ban them. If they want to try again, that'll be $20 It's not perfect but its better than nothing

Careful. The presumption that D2D's maintenance fee only affecting lower-selling books is okay because those books must not be any good is trad logic. Just b/c D2D distributes them doesn't mean anyone sees them. Same problem as always.

In light of the crappy changes being made that have impacted the distribution of indie books, I want to put together a list of stores who are accepting stocking of indie books. I know it won't solve it, but let's help each other ❤️

After Draft2Digital showed its hand, and is actively trying to purge authors who "Don't try hard enough" to earn the $100 min to avoid the fee, I am convinced this platform isn't friendly. But I also have time before I am not in "good standing." So I will be moving my books.
