Don’t shoot the messenger of doom here, but looking at how this war is unfolding, my own reading of the situation is that there’s now roughly a 25% chance that tactical nukes could be used in Iran within the next six weeks. The reason is very simple and very grim. This war cannot really end while around 460 kg of highly enriched uranium - enough for 11 nuclear warheads - is still sitting there. At the end of the day there are only two possible outcomes: either the regime gives it up under pressure - unlikely - or someone decides to destroy it. And from everything I can see, there is no conventional way to guarantee obliterating those stockpiles. Which leaves a very uncomfortable possibility on the table. I sincerely hope I’m wrong. But that’s where my mind lands when I look at the possible endgames here. Again, don’t shoot the messenger.
