DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD | On 16 June 2026, the Day of the African Child, the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Hon. Emma Theofelus, visited her former school, People’s Primary School, where she was warmly welcomed by learners with cheers and dancing before engaging with them and sharing words of encouragement. As a former learner of the school and now a Minister, she reflected on her journey and encouraged learners to remain focused on their education, persevere through challenges, and believe in their potential. Her visit served as a powerful reminder that with determination, hard work, and commitment to one's goals, great achievements are possible. By returning to the school where her own journey began, the Minister offered learners a glimpse of what they too can achieve through perseverance and self-belief. The Day of the African Child honours the courage of the thousands of school children who participated in the 1976 Soweto Uprising in South Africa, protesting against unequal education under apartheid and advocating for the right to quality education for all children across Africa.
