The Islamic Dilemma The Quran says two things that create a serious problem. It strongly confirms that the Torah and the Gospel are true revelations from God. It also contradicts these same Scriptures on very important beliefs. This creates an unsolvable contradiction: If the Torah and Gospel are reliable and unchanged (as the Quran says), then the Quran is wrong — because it disagrees with them on major points. If the Torah and Gospel have been changed or are unreliable, then the Quran is still wrong — because it repeatedly says they are from God, well-preserved, and should be followed. Either way, the Quran’s own statements create a problem. What the Quran Says About the Torah and Gospel: They are divine revelations from God: Quran 3:3 and 5:46 They are perfectly preserved and cannot be changed: Quran 6:115 and 5:44 Jews and Christians should judge by them and follow them: Quran 5:43, 5:47, and 5:68 But the Quran Also Contradicts Them On Key Beliefs: It denies that Jesus is divine (Quran 5:116–117), while the New Testament clearly teaches that He is. It denies that Jesus was crucified (Quran 4:157), while the crucifixion is a central event in Christianity. In short: The Quran praises the earlier Scriptures and tells people to follow them, but then teaches the opposite of what they say. This is known as the Islamic Dilemma.
