@Decoy_One2 I’m not advocating that you or any other japanese person engages in activity that could land you in prison or with a fine, but do think about if these laws are really justified with regards to abandoned games.

@Decoy_One2 i guess this also leads to moral hazard in the minds of Japanese as there isn’t such a distinction between downloading old “abandoned” games and newer ones. I hope for your sake the used game market is fair in japan and that you can find affordable ways to enjoy your favourites

@Decoy_One2 ah i see. I never realised there was such harsh penalties for simply downloading the games. People in the west can just publicly post it and nothing happens even if you were to report it to police nothing happens, and that’s not the case in japan hence the online debate

@Decoy_One2 third party servers for nier simply keep the game alive for people to enjoy and preserve it for future generations, at no cost whatsoever to the developers, no lost revenue for them either and can expand the player base for future games

@Decoy_One2 all i’m saying, law aside, is that downloading the rom for what’s called “Abandonware” in english is super common and no one thinks anything of it because you can’t support the creators by buying the game anyway because all that’s in circulation is second hand products anyway.

@Decoy_One2 I collected the whole berserk manga and a lot of it was out of print, so i did end up buying the second hand volumes of ebay for triple the market price because i enjoyed reading the physical copy and wanted to support the creator

@Decoy_One2 with regards to silent hill 2 you’re advocating people buy a second hand ps2 and a second hand physical copy, neither of which profit anyone except the second hand seller vs just downloading the rom and emulating it for free. in either case zero money is made by the company.

@Decoy_One2 I’m not sure if what i’m saying is lost in translation but i’ll reiterate my main point. Pirating a game that is available on current gen is bad, but games that are no longer sold should be pirated as there is no legitimate channel to purchase them.

@Decoy_One2 maybe that’s the case for people in south America commenting but most europeans and Americans will shell out money if the game is available on steam, i have a 100+ game steam library with plenty of japanese games on there such as metal gear solid, resident evil and devil may cry

@magozone23 I will disagree with you on this one. If something can't be bought than using it is not stealing. Digital content doesn't work like physical one, when it copied no one is losing anything unless there's profit to be made, but when restrictions in place, there's no profit to begin.
