"In a final twist after the weapons officer was rescued, two transport planes that would carry the commandos and the airmen to safety got stuck at a remote base in Iran. Commanders decided to fly in three new planes to extract all the U.S. military personnel and the airmen, and they blew up the two disabled planes rather than have them fall into Iranian hands." -NYT

🚨🇺🇸🇦🇺 AIM-260A Joint Advanced Tactical Missile (JATM) FMS to Australia clears Congressional review The possible Foreign Military Sale of up to 450 JATMs, 5 Integration Test Vehicles, 30 Guided Test Vehicles and associated equipment & services, worth an estimated $3.16 billion, was formally notified to Congress quietly on January 23. DSCA did not publicly announce the sale, despite posting numerous other high profile sales during that period in late January. 15 days having elapsed since the transmittal of the formal Congressional Notification, the sale now has approval to proceed to final negotiations between Australia and the US Government on the proposed Letter of Offer & Acceptance. The USG referred my inquiries regarding the status of the LoA to the Australian government, who did not respond.

JATM is now available for export request, on a case-by-case basis, for U.S. allies that operate the AIM-120D-3 AMRAAM, per U.S. officials. Priority will go to Indo-Pacific allies, and may not match the pace and size of Australia's purchase.

🇺🇸 ~4000 Tomahawks were in inventory, so this would be 21% of that. Not a trivial amount, but not an insurmountable replacement requirement. Tomahawk production capacity is 600/year, increasing to 1000/year. The Navy needs to place the orders. Their procurement has been anemic.

SCOOP: The U.S. military has fired more than 850 Tomahawk cruise missiles in four weeks of war with Iran, burning through the precision weapons at a rate that has alarmed some Pentagon officials and prompted internal discussions about how to make more available.

A rare black “Tomahawk” cruise missile mock-up has appeared at a Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force ceremony celebrating the integration of Tomahawk launch capability on one of its destroyers. I feel like I’ve come across sightings of this unusual black Tomahawk quite recently. twz.com/sea/black-toma…

High-resolution photographs clicked recently offer an excellent visual comparison between two of the most important strategic and conventional weapons for the B-52. The AGM-181 Long Range Stand Off Weapon (LRSO) was observed in California (via @JarodMHamilton), while the AGM-158 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM-ER) was documented in the UK (via @TallGlenn85). Both weapons, and their follow on variants will help keep the B-52 relevant for decades to come. ❗️🇺🇸🇯🇵 The White House confirms that SM-3 IIA, the United States' most sophisticated theater ballistic missile defense interceptor, will have its production quadrupled from 24 per year to 96 per year. RTX had only specified an increase of 2x-4x, so we did not know exactly what the target was. SM-3 is a joint program between the US & Japan. The White House also announced "the two countries will scope Japan’s future role in increased AMRAAM production capacity".
Colby Badhwar tweet media
Colby Badhwar@ColbyBadhwar

It's important to note that this investment by Raytheon predates the new framework agreement with the Pentagon, which will see production increase even further: SM-6 from 125/year to +500/year SM-3 IB & SM-3 IIA will both see a 2-4x increase
