Being an instructional leader doesn’t always mean you are providing expertise in teaching and learning. Sometimes… it just means you are helping to shape the conditions in which your teachers can thrive. Sometimes, it’s just about building the right culture.

Culture is a competitive advantage. A team with a great culture seems to have an extra layer of strength, tradition, resilience, belief and power that allows them to perform at a higher level.

Sometimes, the most valuable thing educators provide for their students, is the structure, stability, and support that they don’t get at home.

Grit? What is it? I believe it’s driven by love. Inspired by vision and purpose. Fueled by optimism and belief. Powered by faith and hope. Revived by resilience. Kept alive by stubbornness. And if we’re honest includes some fear of failure and desire to prove oneself.

There’s a saying, “If the devil won’t make you bad he’ll make you busy.” He will distract you and cause you to focus on all the things that don’t matter instead of what does matter. Distractions are the enemy of greatness. Focus on what matters most!

Don’t wait for your district to offer a training. Don’t wait for your school to “develop” you. You’re a talented professional and can take ownership of your learning. Take full advantage of what your school offers, but be a continuous learner. Own your learning. #FutureDriven
