This fall, eight preeminent computer scientists will be featured in the online lecture series Turing Minds. The series includes six Turing Award winners and kicks off this Friday. Face recognition (FR) using web images and other sources can be abused for privacy intrusion. New research from @GeorgiaTech and @HKUniversity introduces Chameleon, a system that creates a "mask" for protection against unauthorized facial recognition. One mask can be used to protect all the facial images of a single person, making the tool more accessible to people with limited experience and resources. A @GeorgiaTech team is accelerating computer vision research for aerial vehicles with a new dataset that simulates real-world conditions. The sky's the limit for the capabilities the data could produce, including safer, more reliable autonomous flying vehicles in urban areas. New technologies allow us to tackle old problems. @GeorgiaTech teams, led by the college, are applying that lesson with large language models (LLMs)—programs that generate text from human prompts (e.g. chatbots)—and other technologies used to study human language. Tech's experts, on 37 teams, will present new research at the @aclmeeting #ACL2024, Aug. 11–16. One team is developing a novel #LLM solution to help users share personal information on social media while limiting privacy risks. @cocoweixu and @alan_ritter, faculty investigators on the team, are Tech's leading contributors to ACL research.
