First of all, the idea of a "generational curse" is not a thing in our Deen. Surah Fatir (35:18) is the law here. No soul carries the load of another. You are not being punished for what your father or grandfather did. However, the stains/lingering impact of their sins may hurt you. It is real. Ibn al-Qayyim mentions in Ad-Da' wa ad-Dawa' that the impact of a sin is like a seed that grows, and its darkness can cast a shadow over a person's life. He explains that sins can block the doors of Rizq and remove the Barakah that should have protected the family. If the wealth of those children in Surah Al-Kahf (18:82), were protected because their father was a righteous man, it means it could also be other way round. One thing is clear: you aren't inheriting their debt. For instance, despite Abu Jahl being the Pharaoh of this Ummah, Ikrimah, his son, became a giant of the faith. Your goal should be how to be like Ikrimah or a righteous father regardless of whatever stains or curse that may be generational against you. Imam Ibn al-Qayyim in Al-Tibb al-Nabawiy, mentioned some Divine Medicine I believe will help you going forward: 1. Perform Ruqyah and Recite Surah Al-Baqarah. Always recite or play Surah Al-Baqarah in your home. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said it cleanses the space of darkness and makes Shaytan flee. It resets the spiritual atmosphere of your house and clears the bad energy left behind by past errors. 2. Use charity as a shield. The Prophet (peace be upon him) taught us it stands in the way of calamity and cools the fire of past mistakes. It is a practical way to buy peace for your future and push back against the Athar of the past. 3. Be consistent in doing Istighfar for the Lineage. Please, do not just ask for yourself. Make it a habit to ask Allah to forgive your parents and grandparents. This act of kindness can settle the spiritual debts they left behind and clear the path for your own success. 4. Ensure your own money is halal. If there is one thing that can make all your Duas and efforts worthless, it’s eating Haram. Also, if your income is clean, it helps provides a clean foundation so your own children do not have to face the same struggle you are navigating now. You are the one building the new wall of righteousness. I pray the Almighty grant you his mercy. Allah knows best.
