I want to believe these four policemen are on their way to Abuja now to see the IGP, every single person on here is interested in this case so we hope their trip isn’t just formalities that’ll end with a pat at the back. On different occasions, my husband has been hired to transport goods from one place to another. One day, he went out wearing his NURTW face cap, and surprisingly, none of the policemen on the road stopped him. But another time, he forgot the cap at home and had a completely different experience. Even though his bus was empty and he was just on his way to pick up the goods, the police stopped him and started harassing him. At some point, they even entered his bus and tampered with it, he ended up spending over three hours trying to fix the issue, which cost him extra money, and they still collected money from him. It just shows that sometimes, once they see you’re affiliated with NURTW, they’re less likely to stop or stress you.

At Lafenwa, a policewoman stopped a cab because the driver didn't pay for the passengers he carried. People were even urging him to pay her so she would let him go.

There’s this particular town, I won’t mention the name where once the police spot a bus, they’ve already stretched out their hands for money. Yesterday, I was in a bus entering the town when the driver asked the passenger beside him to hand over money just ₦100. And the officer was already waiting to collect it like it was normal. The painful part is that it wasn’t just one checkpoint. We met about two or three before getting into the town, and it was the same thing at each stop collecting money from drivers. At this point, it feels like a daily routine for them, turning checkpoints into a money-making scheme instead of actually doing their job. It’s honestly sad.
