@KaruOnline Certainly, and make. sure that Executive Presidency can not be revoked even with 2/3. majority and referendum .
English

PM Harini Amarasuriya’s announcement in Parliament reaffirming the pledge to abolish the Executive Presidency by adopting a new Consitution is welcome. This long-standing national need has been endorsed repeatedly at the ballot. Clear timelines, transparency, and inclusion of everyone will be key to building public trust and support for a new constitution.

Some weaponize race.
Some, religion.
Some, language and culture.
Some, class and social status.
There is no difference in any of these irrational divisions , each different foam of politics of hate
each path leads us to the same destination: chaos.
Let’s rise above these walls,
and build a nation bound by humanity, not hostility. 🇱🇰

@MASumanthiran Reality is the government Is not interested any more in elections. They are waiting. for a conducive environment to hold election as they know this not the right time for them. How ever the opposition should demand a new new constitution to clear the mess

In order to facilitate the conduct of elections…M.A. Sumanthiran brought a bill in the form of a private member motion…
…the government should cooperate in passing Chanakiyan’s motion in the House…But the government has no such inclination. southasianaffairs.com/why-is-the-sri…

@NewsWireLK Still we are not sure that the county’s economy is in the safe side. How ever we don’t need international guide lines to shape it. We have enough economists to handle it.

“Some said queues will return, no food, no alms for monks, no perahera — but I never said that. Some Opposition MPs said so thinking this govt was going socialist. I clarified that it’s not.
What we have today is a weak puppet govt — no confidence, no allies, no respect. Sri Lanka has lost its national dignity.”
– MP Dilith Jayaweera in Parliament today.

@NewsWireLK The question is are we really. Short of buses ? I think that we have sufficient buses for the time being. Discourage imports , encourage local manufacturing.

@Dailymirror_SL We have noticed that foreign ministry for decades depends on foreign experts to handle foreign affairs. Our own experts hardly consulted when there is a crisis.

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa today accused the government of not taking a vote for the resolution adopted without a vote at the 60th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
The MP told Parliament that the government objected the resolution orally but failed to take a vote.
"If the government objects it orally, does it not have a backbone to take a vote? If a vote was taken, the majority of the countries in the world are willing to support Sri Lanka," he said.
Rajapaksa said the government must stop its double standard and act with honesty.
"Who is the government going to please. Is it the Tamil Diaspora?" he asked.

@alisabrypc There was. a time cricket was known as a gentleman’s game. Cricketers respected as sportsman and they were not involved in political games. Nowadays politics takes upper hand and cricket has lost its merits.
English

Cricket Should Bridge, Not Divide
It is regrettable when political rivalries spill onto the cricket field. The true spirit of cricket and of all sport, lies in its power to transcend politics, foster friendships, and bring nations together.
The playing field should remain apolitical. Governments and leaders have their own avenues to resolve differences; the role of cricket is different. It is to inspire, to entertain, and to remind us of our shared humanity beyond borders.
India and Pakistan have produced some of the most iconic moments in cricketing history, admired and cherished by millions across the world. That legacy should not be overshadowed by politics. Instead, it should be safeguarded as a common treasure that unites people even when nations disagree.
Let us keep cricket as it was meant to be, a bridge of respect and goodwill, not a casualty of rivalry.

@gayaradesilva Thoughts differ person to person. Learning a language Is not compulsory but a necessity. Every individual. has a right to decide what he needs. It depends on a person’s attitude and. enthusiasm.

Having studied at an international school in Colombo, I can confirm the weakness in how Sinhala and Tamil are taught. By Form 1 (Grade 6), we were still learning to write short essays, while in English we had already advanced to literature. The gap is staggering.
Without reinforcement at home, progress in our native languages is minimal. And that’s the core issue: Sinhala and Tamil are our mother tongues, yet we don’t treat them with the seriousness they deserve. Preserving them is part of sustaining our culture - and true patriotism. We love to shout about patriotism, but rarely live it.
Contrast this with Norway, where language is at the heart of identity. Even migrants are expected to learn Norwegian for better integration, and the state provides 500 free hours of tuition to ensure it. That’s what valuing a language - and a culture - looks like.
