From the beginning of the negotiations process, our goals were to increase starting salaries, compensate staff who have been in the district for years, and increase the top of our pay scale.

MNEA is pleased with the Marple Newtown School Board’s unanimous vote to ratify the contract.  This five year agreement represents a significant investment in the educators who work day in and day out with the students of Marple Newtown.

@MarpleNewtownSD has slipped to LAST in Del. County when it comes to educational spending. Meanwhile, we have risen to 1st in spending on areas outside of instruction (not including construction $). It’s time they prioritize EDUCATION!

The board’s offer is trying to divide us. The bump step will drain the salary matrix for people still working through it, continuing to adversely affect career earnings. Additionally, it will cost the district more in the long term, and we will be right back where we started.

We have brought the news of pay inequity to the public. Now, here is the new reality of the hiring process in Pennsylvania. It is in @MarpleNewtownSD fiscal interest to pay to retain our best teachers rather than have a bidding war for the remaining pool of candidates.

@MarpleNewtownSD has shown they are willing to spend. They spend more than any of the surrounding districts on business salaries but the least on regular education salaries. MNEA thinks what goes on in the classroom is just as valuable as what goes on behind closed doors.
