Meet Lorraine Krause, a U.S. Army Nurse in Europe in WWII. She served in France in 1944-1945 and then made her way to Japan. Did you know: nurses held officers' ranks, but were paid less and held lower ranks. This only changed in June 1944. #IWD2025

When the Germans invade in 1940 Charles-André Schommer and his family flee to the US, where he enlists in 1943. Due to his language skills he is assigned to the military intelligence of the 29th Division. On D-Day, he wades ashore on Omaha Beach with the 2nd wave. #dday80

Félix Peters leaves 🇱🇺 in 1941. In 1944, he is part of "Commando Kieffer" of the Free French Naval Forces. He lands near Ouistreham on D-Day. The unit is involved in heavy fighting and in mid-June, Peters is KIA near Amfreville, seemingly in a friendly fire incident. #dday80

For #dday80, we post 6 portraits of Luxembourgers who landed on 6/6/1944 on those fateful beaches in Normandy. First up Pierre Laux, who had joined the British Army. He landed near Ouistreham on Sword Beach to relieve the paratroopers at Pegasus Bridge. KIA 1/11/1944.

On Friday, Richard Stephany presented the diary that his father wrote during his imprisonment at Fort Zinna military prison in 1944-45 at Johann-Walter highschool in Torgau, an emotional moment for him and the many students present. #NeverForget #wwii

This French M1822 light cavalry sabre was cunningly stolen from passing French soldiers in Kaundorf in 1918 by 13 year old Pierre Majerus. Via his nephew, it has now found its way to the museum's collection. Check our Facebook/Insta profiles for the full story.
