On October 7, 2025, the 12th edition of the bi-regional mechanism for dialogue between Italy and the Latin American and Caribbean countries took place in Rome, Italy. The next edition will be held in 2027 and one of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean will be host.

On 8 Oct 2025, Minister Bouva received Belgium’s new Ambassador Ellen De Geest. They discussed strengthening bilateral ties, Suriname’s 50th Independence Anniversary, and Belgium’s support for the Schengen visa waiver process.
