I visited @TurningPointUK in Westminster, hearing from the brilliant staff that provide free, confidential support for addiction, mental health and those released from prison. This is exactly why the London Crime Prevention Fund matters.

I spent some time in @BarnetCouncil seeing how the London Crime Prevention Fund is making a difference. Backed by @MOPACldn, it invests each year into local safety projects across London.

Phone theft is a global menace, but we’re fighting back in London. I’m working with the Met & tech companies to make it harder for criminals to reset and resell stolen devices. Last year, thefts dropped by 10,000. We won’t stop until London is a no-go zone for phone thieves.

My record funding is supporting the UK’s largest ever crackdown on mobile phone crime. The Met is targeting street snatchers and organised criminal gang smugglers with more visible neighbourhood policing and cutting-edge tech. The result: 10,000 fewer phone thefts last year.

Mobile phone crime cannot be solved by policing alone. We need greater collaboration between tech companies and international law enforcement. If we don’t see results, the Commissioner will have my full support in calling for new legislation. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Phone theft can have a traumatic impact on victims, and itcan end up funding global organised crime. Phone crime was driven down last year, but we’re not complacent. We’re uniting cities, police and tech companies to make stolen phones harder to reset, reuse and resell.

For victims & survivors of sexual violence, navigating the criminal justice system can be extremely intimidating & retraumatising. So I am delighted by this announcement & proud to see MOPAC's pioneering work to tackle #VAWG helping women & girls across the country.

Support is invaluable to survivors as they seek justice. No one should have to do this alone. We’ll continue to work with the government, the Met police, London’s Victims Commissioner and partners across our city to provide the highest level of support for victims of sexual violence.

It is unacceptable that victims have to relive their trauma in the criminal justice system. New government support for rape victims is an important step and builds on our work in London, where we have already been piloting free legal advice for survivors of sexual violence.

It was great to mark #internationalwomensday with @debs_wb & our new @LDNVictimsComm Andrea Simon today at LabTech – a signatory of the Women’s Night Safety Charter and Camden’s first permanent Safety Hub, carrying out vital work to help to keep women safe at night.

More support for survivors. Too often, victims and survivors are trapped in abusive situations because of debt and financial dependence. Today I’m committing an additional £9m to help survivors across London access vital services, build skills and get the jobs they need to secure their futures.

My thoughts today are with the family, loved ones and all those impacted by Sarah Everard’s murder five years ago. Sarah’s murder by a serving police officer shocked and horrified the entire country and rightly sparked an outcry about the national epidemic of violence against women and girls. In London, we are targeting the worst perpetrators of violence against women and girls, doubling down on standards within the Met and working to tackle toxic misogyny in our society. But we still have much more work to do to ensure women and girls feel safe and are safe in our city - wherever they are, whatever time of day or night. As Mayor, I am determined to do everything in my power to help end violence against women and girls as we continue to build a safer London for everyone.
