Served looks, served my party, served the people of Cheltenham. While many things can be said, it cannot be said that I didn't give everything I had going spare to trying to make the world a bit less terrible. I can make peace with a year like that.

I look back on 2024 with awe at my own ability to cram so many spectacular lows into a year with such immense highs. Homeownership, a Masters from Cambridge, reelection plus my dream job. There is no more meaningful joy in this life than the fleeting sort we desperately cling to.

HS2 will mean Cheltenham to London travellers suffer years of disruption during the construction of Old Oak Common station. And there’s a risk of permanently slower journeys when the station is built. I called a debate in Parliament to ask ministers what they’re doing about it.

Labour and Tories are terrified of Reform/Farage and they have no answer but to slip further to the far right on migration. Too afraid of their own shadows to admit that Brexit is at the root of our migration crisis. Until we start being honest about that, it will only get worse.
