The number of Aussies starting a uni degree is up. The number of Aussies from disadvantaged backgrounds starting a uni degree is up even more. My old uni @UNSW is helping. Their fantastic Gateway Program is helping more students from Western Sydney make it to UNSW and succeed when they get there. I was at Plumpton High School in Western Sydney today where 28 Year 12 students are off to UNSW next year.

The ACT has signed on to an updated school funding and reform agreement. This agreement will lift the Commonwealth’s investment in ACT public schools to 25 percent of the Schooling Resource Standard. This investment will be tied to real practical reforms to help students catch up, keep up and finish school. That means more individualised support for students, mandating evidence based teaching practices and more mental health support in schools.
