Did they fail the exam, or did the Royal College of Physicians fail them? Lots of misleading language in the press about this scandal - the doctors involved at the centre should be everyone’s primary concern

Reports from @FT show 6k+ applicants for just 1700 training posts last year. Doctors are being left in limbo, without posts and unable to progress in their career. In an understaffed NHS this is a scandal. Government must urgently increase training posts. ft.com/content/ddb51e…

Supply of anaesthetists is constrained by inadequate numbers of training places and poor retention. This year, there were 3,520 applications for an available 540 core anaesthetic training places and 640 applications for 390 higher training places.

These stats, just released, are a national scandal. Over 15,000 doctors applied to GP training this year. Yet @NHSEngland is letting only 4000 of them do so. Yes. That’s 11k potential new GPs lost to the NHS - when we’re crying out for GPs. Many replaced with PAs - madness.
