The lack of solutions yesterday from Arteta with this one specific issue was bad. Arsenal played 19 progressive passes against Man City's 181. All the possession between the CBs + GK with no answer for the zonal high press of Man City. Haaland & Cherki's role were simple; prevent Rice/Zubimendi from receiving the ball behind the forward line whilst also covering off angles from CBs + GK. Doku & Semenyo's roles were similar, curve the ball back towards the goalkeeper from the CBs + retreat when needed if the ball was clipped over to the FBs. Bernardo & Rodri's role; more complex. Remaining in this zonal position with metres between them and Rice & Zubimendi was risky but very effective. When they remained just in front of the back-line they made it a 6v4 which was favourable for first/second balls when Arsenal had no answer and resorted to long balls. This exact pattern lost Arsenal almost every single possession of note, it even lost them the ball for the second City goal. An overload in the first phase with no idea how to use it. Not panic stations by any means but a very poor reflection on Arteta given the length of time this issue was prominent for throughout the game.

@qxssan this is why I feel like people screaming at Arteta for not bringing Dowman on are odd There is no chance we should consistently rely on a 16 years old to bail us out if we want to have any hope of him being a long term figure of this football club

I know he's getting cooked but I can't bring myself to hate on Saka this isn't just a "falloff" it's the result of years of malpractice. 87 consecutive games between 19-22 is child abuse and now he looks like he can't even run.

So Sami Mokbel is saying Eze is apparently due to miss today because he didn’t get fit in time from his knock against Leverkusen. This doesn’t make sense given as he’s been training all week including last night.
