China’s President Xi appears to have has laid out a new strategic framework for the bilateral relationship. He calls it “constructive strategic stability”. Which sounds like a form of leader-led detente but still with deep red lines on Taiwan. We will remember them. I joined Australians and New Zealanders gathered at dawn on the USS Intrepid to honour the sacrifice of those who have served. At that same hour, more than a century ago, the ANZACs prepared to land at Gallipoli - the beginning of a story that still endures today.
