This was an incredible moment at the @whyhunger event at the @thestonepony last night. So after @StevieVanZandt finished his smoking hot Disciples of soul set, he of course brings @springsteen on stage to the euphoria of Asbury Park. They kick into I Don't Wanna Go Home and within 2 minutes or so into the song the FIRE ALARM at the Pony goes off! Everyone including the performers were looking around in bewilderment trying to figure out what was going on. Now this in theory could have been a disaster in the sense that the whole venue would need to be evacuated and who knows what that means to the rest of the show. (We all knew it was a false alarm already but protocol would have had us all evacuate as a precaution, but again thankfully there was no immediate danger here. From what we heard someone mistakenly pushed the fire alarm 🤪) Anyway, during this time of uncertainty, as everyone on stage was trying to figure out the next move, G-D Bless the Love Man Anthony Almonte for NEVER STOPPING playing, which was hilarious, so much so that even Bruce himself was laughing and started playing Anthony's bongos. And if anyone even had the thought anyone was leaving the Pony without seeing Bruce and Stevie perform, well obviously you are not familiar with them the Spring-Nut Asylum, much less the Jersey Strong of Asbury Park! While Anthony was playing those bongos, the whole Pony started singing in unison: I Don't Wanna Go Home, which then broke into Santa Claus is Coming To Town, and the We're Having A Party! Bruce, Stevie, the Disciples of Soul singers, @MRibler were so impressed by that and had a blast. Finally the all clear was sounded, and what could have been a absolute downer to an incredible night, turned into a blessing because when everyone hit that stage again it took it up 10 notches. Bruce and Stevie were hamming it up and had the audience in the palm of their hands. Bruce's smile was palpable and you could tell he was having the time of his life up there. The love and friendship Bruce and Stevie have is so special and wonderful to see. I have to say that Marc Ribler really deserves a ton of respect and appreciation on not just being the musical director of an amazing and definitely meticulous show, but how he handled that whole situation. A true leader in every sense of the word. The whole band was clicking on all cylinders last night. All the performers were stellar and it was another epic and historical moment in Asbury Park. So wonderful to see so many Spring-Nuts in the crowd to share the love with! Kudos to all the performers, the Stone Pony staff, and of course WhyHunger for an phenomenal event and for all the important work they have done for 50 years!
