The first day of the 2026 Operations Institute was one for the books! From Dr. Richmond's address to informative sessions, each leader is walking away with the insights and knowledge needed for success during the 2026-2027 school year. As we continue building District-wide alignment, our leaders are leaving inspired, excited to learn, and equipped with the tools to lead with excellence in every school and department.

We’re excited to kick off the 2026 Operations Institute, where great leaders take root and rise. In his opening address, Superintendent Dr. Roderick Richmond reminded our leaders of the impact they have across the District. As we prepare for an amazing three days of learning and growth, we're continuing to invest in the leaders who help move our District forward and make a difference for students every day.

Recently, we introduced a partnership with tnAchieves to bring MemACCESS to seniors across our District. MemACCESS’s goal is to make sure students don't have to navigate their journey alone. By connecting seniors with the support and guidance they need, we're helping them feel more prepared and confident as they take the next step toward college and their future. On Tuesday, July 28, all MSCS-managed schools will be open during the following times: 7:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Parents and students can: • Meet the school’s administrative team. • Pick up supply lists, dress code information, and bus eligibility details. • Sign up for parent organizations and before/after care (if applicable). This fall, we're partnering with tnAchieves to bring college access support directly to students across the District. The goal of this program is for MemACCESS to connect students with coaches, clear next steps, and wraparound supports designed to help them move from high school to college to career.

As a new school year approaches, there's no better way to understand the MSCS experience than through the voices of our students. For one rising junior at Southwind High School, the decision to stay at MSCS was easy after discovering the opportunities that were already waiting for her. From hands-on experiences in JagTV to programs that help students explore their passions and prepare for life after graduation, Southwind and schools across our District empower students to grow with confidence and see what's possible for their future. The best way to improve is to put in the work, and during the off-season that's exactly what student-athletes are doing at this week's Shelby Metro basketball camp. From conditioning drills to learning how to shoot with the proper form, our young athletes are putting in the work and getting better with each rep.
