Mountain States Legal Foundation is honored to recognize Israel Del Toro as the recipient of the 2026 MSLF Medal of Courage Award 🏅 Israel is a decorated Air Force veteran who survived a devastating blast in Afghanistan that burned over 80% of his body and cost him the full use of his hands. Despite being declared 100% disabled, he showed remarkable courage by choosing to remain in the Air Force, becoming the first airman ever to reenlist under those circumstances. Israel has never let his injuries define him. That includes his determination to exercise his Second Amendment right to self-defense. Colorado’s sweeping 🔫 control law bans these very items, effectively leaving Israel with no practical means to defend himself. Instead, he is told he must navigate layers of bureaucratic red tape only to be left with tools he cannot physically operate. This is more than unfair—it’s an attack on the very freedoms Israel risked his life to defend. No veteran, no citizen, no American should be denied the ability to protect themselves in the way that works for them. The government has no authority to regulate that right away.

Big Bother has been unanimously DENIED (9-0) yet again in First Choice v. Platkin! A massive win for the first Amendment 🙅‍♂️😮‍ MSLF filed an amicus brief supporting First Choice in its challenge against the State of New Jersey The Supreme Court unanimously cleared the way for this case to move forward in federal court, finding that the risk of exposing donor identities was a real and immediate harm. This is an important First Amendment victory that helps protect nonprofit organizations from unfair state investigations before enforcement begins. 💯

TOMORROW (4/23) Mountain States Legal Foundation is standing with Joshua Diemert to defend equal protection, free speech, and the Constitution. No public employee should be forced to submit to race-based classifications or compelled speech. 🙅‍♀️ When Joshua questioned these ideas, the City of Seattle did not engage with his concerns. Instead, it treated his objections as proof that he needed more training. In practice, the program left no room for disagreement.
