Ayer martes disfrutamos de la hospitalidad del diario MARCA ,con su director Juan Ignacio Gallardo a la cabeza, al que acompañaban como es tradicional los patrocinadores e instituciones que hacen posible que el Magistral de Ajedrez de León haya llegado a su 39º edición.

Mañana día 3 de Marzo presentaremos en el diario MARCA en Madrid , la XXXIX edición del Magistral de Ajedrez de León. Junto al director de Marca, Juan Ignacio Gallardo, estarán los representantes de las instituciones de León y su comunidad así como patrocinadores y prensa.

El próximo martes 3 de Marzo presentaremos en la sede del diario MARCA en Madrid la XXXIX edición del Torneo Magistral de Ajedrez Ciudad de León, un año más la casa del deporte español acogerá a patrocinadores , instituciones y jugadores para hablar deporte ajedrez.

RIP to the great Dutch Grandmaster Jan Timman. He was the leader of the new Western generation after Fischer. Unlike many, he was a serious analyst and researcher who loved every aspect of the game, including compositions. He was at his powerful peak through the 1980s to 1993, when he lost matches to his peer Karpov and Nigel Short of the new generation. We dueled many times, including his victory in my "heaviest" game ever, where our moves were mirrored by machines moving huge shipping containers as pieces in Rotterdam! We also argued many times, as he also cared deeply about the future of our beloved game. He was my first opponent after I became world champion in 1985, pictured here in Hilversum, NED, before game 5 of our match on Dec 20, I believe.

I vividly remember this occasion... It was 30 years ago. He interviewed me for a series for a Dutch TV channel. You can see in the picture the opening of a game I won against Wolfgang Uhlmann, sacrificing 2 pawns for a huge attack on the kingside. We analysed this game together during the interview that he picked himself. Do you know why this one? Because it was the moment when he realised that I am... a special player, he said in the interview. His statement gave me a lot and encouraged me.🙏 Many years later, in 2020, we changed the roles, and I conducted an interview with him (you can watch it in the BIO). I respected his chess, his artistic vision of chess as a practical player and as a chess composer, and respected his character. Jan Timman has passed away. He was, along with world chess champion Max Euwe, the best Dutch chess grandmaster ever. I often followed his games. He was world-class! Rest in peace #JanTimman
