I shared my thoughts today in a Fox News oped about a major focus of our work at the @BPC_Bipartisan for the last year: our Commission on the American Workforce and its call for a national talent strategy to prepare our workforce for the jobs of today and tomorrow. AI is changing education and employment and we're just not ready for it — but we can be if we're willing to take action. Next week we're rolling out a new report at a major event to discuss how we do it. I hope you'll read this piece, let me know what you think, and consider joining us. foxnews.com/opinion/margar… #FoxNews

Tomorrow, the 2026 midterm election cycle officially begins as voters head to the polls for primary elections in Arkansas, North Carolina, and my home state of Texas. The election policy landscape continues to rapidly evolve, but one constant remains: the dedication of election officials across the country who work year-round to ensure our elections are conducted securely, accessibly, and accurately. As we look ahead to the remaining primaries and the general election this fall, follow along with @BPC_Bipartisan this week to learn how states are working to protect your vote.

Rising health care costs are a challenge across the whole economy, and we can’t make real progress for the American people with a piecemeal approach. That’s exactly why BPC recently launched its Health Care Affordability Initiative. We will actively work with policymakers on both sides to identify policies that will address high health care prices at their root and help lower the everyday cost of living. Want to learn more about this new initiative? Read our article below and follow along this week at @BPC_Bipartisan. bipartisanpolicy.org/article/moving…

Our economy can’t grow and our families can’t prosper unless we have an educated, prepared, and supported workforce – and child care is a critical element of that support for working families. Access to affordable and quality child care is essential for parents to be able to participate in the workforce, achieve economic stability, and raise thriving families. Follow along this week as we highlight @BPC_Bipartisan work to support working families, particularly child care needs across the US and policymaking in Washington to modernize child care.

This tax season is going to look different for many Americans. Changes made in the 2025 tax package will affect nearly every taxpayer, and for workers who benefit from newly created provisions on tips, overtime, and more, the changes could be significant. At the same time, the IRS will be facing challenges from recent upheaval and lower staffing levels. Want to get up to speed on what to expect this filing season and how to track it? Follow along this week at @BPC_Bipartisan and in our tax season brief, which is being updated regularly. bipartisanpolicy.org/issue-brief/th…

Congress is working this week on legislation that would give long-term certainty to critical health policies like telehealth for Medicare patients, payments for rural hospitals, and more. For too long, these programs have been governed by a chaotic patchwork of short-term extensions that create uncertainty for patients and providers and made it challenging for health systems and businesses to plan and invest for the future. Follow along at @bpc_bipartisan for updates throughout this week.

Jim Hunt was a national leader and champion for public education - an original “education governor” who put improving schools, creating opportunity for all students, and the importance of education to a competitive economy at the very center of his public life. Whether it was as governor of North Carolina, serving alongside me on the Commission on the Future of Higher Education, or leading the Hunt Institute and training the next generation of education leaders, for 50 years in public life he was a tremendous advocate for students and a leader of the education reform movement. He was also a friend and resource for me when I served at the University of North Carolina. I will miss him.

Despite the partisan noise, 2025 has been a year of quiet bipartisan progress on a number of issues, like Social Security claiming. A bill to help seniors make more informed choices about when to claim benefits recently passed the House unanimously. @BPC_Bipartisan and our colleagues at @BPCAction have played a key role in educating policymakers and moving this legislation forward. With strong bipartisan support that crosses ideological lines, we hope to see the Senate take up this bill soon. Link: cnbc.com/2025/12/05/con…
